As you travel along this Schist Trail, you’ll have the opportunity to discover the surprising corners of the Zêzere, whether viewed from the heights of Senhora da Rocha or at water level, and be sure to stop by the rock engravings along the riverbanks.
After visiting the rock engravings, continue upriver to the tailings piles at Cabeço do Pião and return to Barroca via the Rota do Mineiro.
The route is now easy and pleasant, following the same trail that many miners took to Barroca.
Upon reaching the outskirts of the village, a short detour takes you a bridge, near which you can see or visit a group of old stone water mills.
If you’d like to avoid the climb to the Senhora da Rocha Chapel, you can choose to follow the signposted PR1.1 alternative route, which will take you directly to the Zêzere pier through the village.
