Starting from the parking lot, we should head north to Caminho dos Cactos, which is located across from the summer homes. As we follow this trail along the left bank of the Neiva River, we’ll be captivated by the estuarine landscape of this river, a place where many migratory birds find refuge. Of particular note are the gray heron (Ardea cinerea), mallard (Anas platyrhynchus), black-headed gull (Larus cachinans), and kingfisher (Alcedo athis). Continuing northward, we reached the mouth of this waterway, where a wide variety of dune vegetation was evident, with a special focus on sea rocket, beach grass, and sand lilies.
