Arraiolos 8.5 kms 02:30:00

Description

A landscape of varied topographic features resulting from brittle deformation, including escarpments, ravines, and plateaus. Between the flatlands of Sempre Noiva and the hills of Arraiolos (the Oleira and Mouzinho plateaus), a tapestry of greenery and wildlife unfolds, stretching across a patch of color dotted with varied rock formations. A landscape in which a geometric fringe of morphological features borders a path through a playful tapestry of biological diversity, inviting you to discover and enjoy it. Along this route, on the section that coincides with the Arraiolos Eco-Trail, next to a majestic ash tree, a stop is a must to admire, from afar, the unique beauty of Arraiolos Castle . Also take note of the old Arraiolos railroad station, built around 1910 and closed in 1987. In Ilhas, a hamlet located less than 2 km from the town of Arraiolos, you can enjoy a landscape that opens up before your eyes—the vast peneplain that stretches all the way to the Serra d’Ossa. In the town of Arraiolos, you can admire the medieval Arraiolos Castle, the Church of the Misericórdia, and the 16th-century Convent of Lóios, as well as the 19th-century Pedra Fountain—not to mention the Arraiolos rugs, the restored Historic Center, and the views of the Montados de Azinho and Sobro forests.
