Description
This short circular route winds through the Upper Cabrum Valley, beginning and ending in Ovadas de Baixo, near the Ovadas Bridge and River Park, and follows the banks of the Cabrum stream.
The landscape is mostly agricultural, dominated by marshes, passing through several groves of native forest, consisting of oaks and ash trees.
Route Description
The route begins heading toward the Cabrum Valley, passing the Ovadas Bridge and the River Park until reaching Covelinhas.
In the village, the route follows a path halfway up the hillside to a
cluster of houses and haylofts, Monte de Covelinhas, which is currently
abandoned. It continues through pastureland to
Granja, then on to Mariares.
Crossing the village, it proceeds to Panchorrinha along a narrow, cobblestone path that winds through marshes and wooded areas.
Between Panchorrinha and Ovadas, the route crosses the valley once more and the Cabrum riverbed; the two banks are connected by a unique bridge of archaic construction, yet very interesting: the Ponte da Panchorrinha.
The route continues along several narrow, cobblestone rural paths lined with stone walls.
Several winding streams flow into the Cabrum, from which irrigation channels branch off—such as the “Rego de Boi,” dating back to medieval times—irrigating the land and powering the waterwheels of the mills.
After passing through Ovadas, the route returns to the starting point.
