This route begins next to the Church of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios in Lamelas, a majestic church well worth a visit. Follow the trail markers through the village center to the top of Portela.

The Montemuro mountain range unfolds with breathtaking scenery until you reach the “Poldras do Meio” on the Vidoeiro River. A river of rare natural beauty, thanks to its hidden corners, waterfalls, mills, and famous trout.

The route continues along rural paths and through lush green fields to the hamlet of Codeçais, where you can also see animals of the “Arouquesa” breed. This village features an architectural style characteristic of mountain regions, at an altitude of 800 m.

From here on, the focus shifts to the Pombeiro River, which, upstream and downstream from the village of Pombeira, is known as the Vidoeiro River.

This river is often the setting for extreme sports, such as canyoning. But the most common story associated with this area is the use of these waters by the local population, who for years built mills to grind various grains.

Pombeira is undoubtedly a small, magical spot, full of charm and millers’ tales to tell. Visitors can admire the various mills in the area and the impressive Pombeira waterfall. Here there is also a geosite, atop one of the large granite boulders, where small landforms created by river erosion—such as giant’s kettles—can be found.

As you leave this spot and near the end of this hike, the landscape becomes increasingly striking, with the Pombeiro River following in the footsteps of those who have visited it and allowing you to savor these unforgettable moments.
