AGD PR5 - Trilho da Ponte da Ferro walking

Águeda 11 kms 02:30:00

Description

The PR5 "Trilho da Ponte de Ferro" trail, begins at Largo dos Santos Mártires, next to the Matriz de Travassô church, in the parish of Águeda, heading toward the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Amparo, where there is also a huge recreational park.

Upon reaching this park, turn right, passing by a SIMRIA facility. After 200 meters along a ditch, take a path through laurel and poplar trees that leads to the “Vouga line,” then turn left onto a rural road running parallel to the railroad tracks. After about 300 meters, the road veers away from the Vouga line, beginning a gentle descent toward the poplar grove, at the beginning of which you take a path to the right that, running parallel to the Vouga line, leads the hiker to the “Rio Velho” and the Iron Bridge. You pass under the bridge until you reach a path between the two rivers: the Rio Velho and the Rio Águeda. The Iron Bridge spans both rivers.

You now head upstream along the right bank of the Águeda River. At the “Volta” site, you can see the confluence of the Cértima River (the one from Pateira de Fermentelos) with the Águeda River, as well as the Requeixo Bridge.

Continuing along well-defined paths along the riverbank, the poplar grove gives way to farmland where corn is the predominant crop.

After a small hill, where you can visit the “EDP house” (formerly UEP) and follow the “vineyard path,” you’ll reach the Vouga River once again. Before crossing it, there is a path to the right that leads back to the riverbank, allowing you to reach the “Ponte Pedrinha” and Óis da Ribeira and connect with the PR1.

Once you’ve crossed the Vouga River, following well-defined trails and the village streets, you’ll quickly reach the Travassô Parish Church, where this route began.
