This route begins next to the chapel in the mountain village of Germil, on the slopes of the Serra Amarela, in the municipality of Ponte da Barca. We make our way through the center of the village and turn left onto a very well-maintained cobblestone path that gradually ascends, allowing us, on the one hand, to climb the mountain slopes and, on the other, to be dazzled by the majestic views of the Peneda, Amarela, and Gerês. After crossing the stream via the stepping stones, we continue along the cobblestone path, then turn left onto a barely defined trail (a shepherd’s path worn by passing herds that leads to a forest road). A few meters later, this path leads us to a paved road. We continue along the road and turn right onto a cobblestone path that follows the Germil River. Along this route, you can admire magnificent riparian vegetation, surrounded by beautiful oak trees. Little by little, we begin to catch sight of the first houses of Germil de Baixo. Before reaching this village, we visit the chapel and make a short, unmissable stop in this bucolic spot to admire the community granaries, which are of great cultural and architectural value. From here, we head back toward the starting point of this route.
