Description
The territory of the Peneda-Gerês National Park has been inhabited by humans since the recent prehistoric period. Evidence of this can be seen in the megalithic remains scattered throughout this protected area, a striking example of which is the Megalithic Necropolis of the Castro Laboreiro Plateau. This necropolis, one of the largest on the Iberian Peninsula, is situated within an important geomorphological unit—the Castro Laboreiro Plateau—where cultural heritage coexists harmoniously with natural heritage. The monuments that make up this ritual site—megalithic funerary monuments—are spread across an area of about 50 km², on the northeastern border of the National Park with Galicia. It is the northernmost megalithic complex in our country and the one located at the highest elevations. This route takes visitors through various megalithic clusters within this necropolis, starting from the nearest settlement, Branda do Rodeiro.
