Description
The route begins at the entrance to the village of Rio de Onor, next to the Rio de Onor Rural Campground.
It is recommended that you begin the hike by following the paved road
southward. After about 900 meters, turn left onto a dirt road,
traveling
the highest section of the route, where you can enjoy
a wide expanse of hills, reaching a single village: Rio de
Onor. Gradually, the
descent begins toward the river and the place
known as Cimo do Couto de Baixo, where you will be amazed by the size
of a centuries-old Black Oak, classified in 2012 as a Tree of
Public Interest.
Return to the main path to take the route back to Rio de Onor, now along a small trail on the banks of the Onor River, next to a marsh. Shortly after, you’ll reach an interesting rock formation, and a few meters further on, you’ll cross the Onor River to walk through some of the communal lands leading up to the village. As you walk through the streets of the village, take the opportunity to visit the Parish Church of Rio de Onor, the bridge spanning the Onor River (dating from the 19th century), the Blacksmith’s Shop and the Community Oven, or one of the mills situated on the riverbank.
