PTG PR2 - Percurso Pedestre do Reguengo walking

Portalegre 10.3 kms 03:45:00

Description

Starting and ending near the Reguengo Parish Church, this is a particularly rugged trail with peaks and ridges, cliffs, and gorges overlooking the peneplain that stretches undulating below all the way to the horizon, dotted with white houses. As we leave the paved road, right just outside Reguengo,
we come upon a forested area where cork oaks, oaks, and maritime pines grow together. Further along the route, a chestnut grove appears, showing signs of age. Both this type of chestnut tree (for fruit production) and chestnut groves (for timber) are common in the mountains, mainly at altitudes between 350 and 600 meters. The area adjacent to the Quinta da Relva settlement is an interesting example of the integration of native and exotic ornamental species, of cork oak forests with natural pastures, and of windbreaks to protect against the wind. Further ahead, a stand of pine trees of various ages, in a higher-altitude area, offers the most beautiful panoramic views along the route. You arrive at Quinta da Lameira, 800 meters from the parish seat of Reguengo and the end of the route, where several fountains and ponds featuring masonry, marble, and tiles frame the 18th-century building.
