BGC PR5 - Por trilhos das Minas da Ribeira walking

Bragança 13.5 kms 04:30:00

Description

Starting in Coelhoso, the route descends to Ribeira de Viveiros, always along a wide path with views of the hill where the Chapel of Santa Bárbara (patron saint of miners) stands, and of the Ribeira Mines.

With about 150 years of history, this mine has had its ups and downs over the years. Its golden age was during World War II, when it employed about 2,000 people in tungsten mining.

After passing Ribeira, the climb to Parada begins. As you proceed, you begin to see extensive olive groves, as olive growing and livestock farming are among the main economic activities of these parishes. Once in the village of Parada, follow Rua da Escola Primária, then head toward the Sanctuary of Nossa Sra. do Carmo. The return to Coelhoso follows rural paths through farmland.
