Description
The “Algoso Castle Trail” is a circular hiking trail that begins and ends in the center of the village of Algoso. Following the recommended route, the trail passes by the town hall of the former Municipality of Algoso and continues toward Algoso Castle. This rock-fortified castle, perched atop an imposing rocky outcrop, visually dominates a vast mountainous region cut through by deep valleys and, in some cases, featuring steep slopes covered with dense stands of native vegetation, notably cork oak, holm oak, and kermes oak forests, which serve as important nesting areas for rock-dwelling birds. The return to Algoso winds through the grain fields, vineyards, and olive groves that surround the village, passing by the Chapel of São João Batista and continuing toward the Parish Church of Algoso, dedicated to Saint Sebastian.
